On Saturday evening, two tourists were killed in a fatal pedestrian accident while crossing Belmont Avenue in Liberty Township. The elderly couple was visiting from their home in Manchester, Connecticut and were out for an evening stroll when they were struck and killed by a red minivan, driven by a woman from Vienna, Ohio.

According to friends, the couple, natives of England, was finishing a tour of all 50 United States. Thankfully, Ohio was their last state, or they would never have lived to complete their lifelong goal.

Thusfar, prosecutors have filed no charges against the driver of the minivan. According to representatives of the Ohio State Patrol, charges will depend on a number of factors, including how fast the car was traveling at the time of the accident and the location of the pedestrians. It is not believed that alcohol was a factor in this accident.

This tragic story is a reminder that in the summer Ohio welcomes many visitors from around the country and the world. Let’s try to extend them our full courtesy and use extra care when driving.
