Dangerous Drugs Hydroxycut and FDA Recalls
Columbus, Ohio
Hydroxycut is the brand name for a massive range of weight-loss products sold by Iovate Health Sciences. Over 750 products bear the Hydroxycut name, and those products are sold in over 70 countries. In May of 2009, the FDA issued a warning for consumers to stop using 14 Hydroxycut products, which Iovate then pulled from the shelves, after multiple reports of liver problems linked with Hydroxycut were reported.
Liver Damage and Other Health Risks
The FDA finally moved to warn against the Hydroxycut products after receiving 23 separate reports of serious liver injuries in conjunction with Hyrdoxycut product use. These cases included the death of a teen in 2007. Other health issues connected to Hydroxycut include:
- Cardiovascular difficulties
- Jaundice
- Liver damage
- Liver failure (resulting in need for transplant)
- Rhabdomyolysis (muscle damage resulting in kidney failure)
- Seizures
Some of the symptoms associated with these liver problems are:
- Abdominal pain
- Brown urine
- Excessive fatigue
- Itching
- Light-colored stools
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea
- Vomiting
The health problems associated with Hydroxycut use may not always be immediate, but may present after a long period of use, and even after having stopped using the product.
