A car accident in Green Township could have claimed three lives. Instead, two women, a 37-year-old and her 15-year old daughter, ended up surviving the head-on collision between their Ford Windstar and a Chevy Chevette because they were wearing their seat belts. The driver of the Chevette was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred at about 10:00 pm on Friday night. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, but have ruled out alcohol as a factor.
No matter the cause of this accident, it reminds us that seat belts save lives. Car accident fatalities are at an all-time low, partly because of enforcement measures that encourage people to use their seat belts. When you are teaching your child to drive, one of the best things you can teach them is to use their seat belts. It may save their life, as it did in this case.
