A bereaved family in Ohio recently filed a wrongful death case against Fresenius Medical Care – the company that produces GranuFlo, an acidic dialysate used during dialysis treatment. Patients with end stage kidney disease often use this product as part of a medical process to cleanse their body of toxins and waste.
Unfortunately, the use of GranuFlo also causes the production of excess biocarbonate in the patient’s body. Too much biocarbonate significantly increases a patient’s risk of cardiovascular complications.
Fresenius knew of these risks since 2010, when their own review of patients treated at 667 different clinics nationwide uncovered at least 940 patients who suffered cardiac arrest during treatment. Despite knowing this, the company did not issue warnings to physicians until November 2011, and failed to notify clinics that purchase their products until after a formal FDA inquiry in March 2012.
If your loved one died because of GranuFlo, or if you have suffered illness because of another type of dangerous drug, you may be entitled to compensation. Please contact Robert W. Kerpsack Co. LPA today to schedule a free case evaluation with an experienced Ohio wrongful death lawyer.
