The daughter of an 82-year-old woman who died while she was a resident at a nursing home has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the nursing home. The resident, who had been living at the nursing home since 2004, died just three days after she fell and fractured her leg and hip there.
Her daughter, Teresa Thorp of Chicago, alleges wrongful death and claims that the nursing home’s abuse and neglect contributed to her mother’s death. She filed the action claiming that the nursing home failed in providing the care that would have prevented the injuries that caused her mother’s death.
The complaint also alleges that there were other incidents involving the resident that appear to have been neglect. While a resident at the nursing home, the woman suffered other injuries including an infected sore on her leg, cuts on her face (after being attacked by another resident) and rib fractures.
The complaint seeks over $50,000 and attorneys’ fees.
