The mother and sister of a University of Virginia senior murdered by her boyfriend have filed a $30 million wrongful death lawsuit against the boyfriend. The lawsuit indicates that the deceased’s surviving relatives are seeking $29 million in compensatory damages and $1 million in punitive damages.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is still investigating the Friday night car accident that killed one person and injured ten others near mile marker 139 on the Ohio Turnpike. The chain reaction accident apparently occurred after 11pm Friday. The accident involved a tour bus and seven other vehicles. At this point, the Ohio State Highway Patrol hasn’t reported the exact cause of the accident, but it is suspected that the heavy downpour taking place at the time played a role in the accident.

In Los Angeles a daughter has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the homeowners association and other administrative entities of the complex where her mother was murdered. The lawsuit was filed last week for the May 1, 2010 stabbing, which took place just outside the woman’s garage.

In one of the more high-profile wrongful death cases of the year, the Missouri Supreme Court has decided not to prevent parents from joining a lawsuit over the death of their adult child, Adrienne Martin. Martin died of an oxycodone overdose while at the palatial home of former beer baron August Busch IV. The lawsuit had originally been filed on behalf of Martin's 9-year-old son, whose lawyers had sought to block the parents from joining the suit.

Last week, a truck driver pleaded not guilty to criminal charges stemming from the deaths of three people who stopped to help a disabled motorist. The motorist's pickup truck has been disabled in an earlier truck accident, but no one was hurt. However, after several people stopped to help him, a semi truck driven by 65 year-old John Tucker hit several people in the roadway. Two were killed. A motorcyclist was also killed when he became involved in the accident.
